Churros

 

1 cup water
1/4 cup butter
1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup flour
1 large egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
vegetable oil, for frying

Coating
1/2 cup sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1. Heat about 1 1/2 inches oil in a large pot over medium heat to 360° (use a food thermometer). While oil is heating, prepare the dough

2. in a saucepan, bring water, butter, sugar, and salt to a boil. 

3. reduce heat to low, add flour, and with help of a spatula, mix until mixture comes together and is smooth. Remove from heat and transfer mixture to a mixing bowl. Allow to cool

4. add vanilla and egg to flour mixture, and blend with an electric mixer

5. transfer dough to a piping bag, and pipe into oil in about 6 inches length (cut end with scissors). 

6. fry until golden brown, about 2 minutes per side. Transfer to a paper towel, and then roll in cinnamon mixture. Do not fry more than 5 churros at a time

Serve with chocolate sauce if desired. Simply melt some Nutella, or dark chocolate with a little heavy cream and butter

Churros taste best if eaten right away!
